Dance of Life, 2020

Trilogy
Mixed media on wood, 120x120cm
Path, Transformation, Wave

The trilogy Dance of Life was created as a movement meditation of the artist. She produced the works simultaneously by aligning them on the ground as a dance floor to move on. The early process of the work was a dance of light colours applied to the wooden canvases using various body parts, initially mainly the feet. Later on she worked and completed the works individually allowing them to gain a character of their own while remaining part of the whole. Notably, this unconscious process of painting by allowing the bodies movements to guide the colours, materials and shapes is visible in the fluidity of the forms in all three works.

Dance of Life has a light character, portraying different forms of movement and motion. Path was completed last seemingly showing abstract imprints and generating a sense of walking in circles. Transformation, the first painting to be finished depicts a sense of circular motion yet reminds of a map or stellar construct. Finally, Waves organically fills the space with a sense of liquid fluidity imitating the movement of water while showing traces of map like characteristics. Each painting in this trilogy carries a visual relationship to nature and animalistic or human interactions with it. In this way we are reminded of how we are of the world, in the world and a part of it all at once. Removing ourselves from our environment is refusing to acknowledge how we dance through life sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously.
